I am the creator of this website. I have created it for the following
reasons, which I personally believe in wholeheartedly. First I want to state
emphatically that I have a black cloud that rains bad luck on me at the
most inopportune times. I believe that bad luck is a tangible, not an
intangible. It is something that we can’t see or grasp, but it’s there to
raise its ugly head. I have personally been afflicted with this demon, or
whatever you’d like to call it, for most of my life.
I have created this site so that other people who may have their own black
cloud won’t feel they are alone. I believe that sharing experiences, better
known as ‘misery Loves Company is indeed helpful. I also hope that through
this website and an exchange of information, we may uncover a way of
reducing and eliminating this black cloud syndrome. Or at the least, we can
weaken its ability to affect our lives.
For those who don’t believe in the black cloud syndrome or don’t have a
black cloud hanging over you, this will give you an opportunity to look over
the fence and see what other people have to deal with on a day-to-day basis.
It can also provide a good reason for you to take solace in your own good
fortune.
There is also another side of this coin. It’s called “good luck. There are
those that have a cloud with a silver lining. These are the people who win
lotteries, and prizes and enjoy many other kinds of good fortune that good
luck can bring, because good luck is as real as bad luck.
I’m going to list just a few things that have happened to me, the creator of
this website, that I attribute to a black cloud. I am submitting these
stories for your consideration and with the hopes that my stories will help
those of you who have a black cloud feel better, because of my sharing these
experiences. I should also state that good fortune comes my way from time to
time, but disproportionably to say the least. All the successes I’ve had and
there were many, as well as achievements, were due to my skill, or to my
entrepreneurial ingenuity, not to good luck.
As a self-employed businessman and entrepreneur, I have been involved in
risk-taking in many investments or endeavors. Over the years I have done
many different projects. I became a boxing promoter, primarily because of my
love for boxing and for the possibility of making money. I was working with
a retired boxer who approached me for capital to be his mentor in this
enterprise. We started with many local bouts with small prize money and
enjoyed some success, but after a period of time, we decided to put together
some big prize money events.
One such event was scheduled with a prize or purse, of $20,000.This was for
a main event. The success of such an event is based upon good media
coverage; offering free food, drinks and interviews with the contestants, a
day or two before the event happens. We had a great line up of reporters,
and even radio, TV and other media personalities, but on the afternoon of
this media coverage, which was slated to begin around 1 PM, something
happened which all reporters and all media in the country needed to cover.
There was no one free to come to our event.
The news was that President Reagan was shot. You may remember this
catastrophic event. As a result we were left with a bunch of food and no
media coverage just days before the fight. Without the media coverage ticket
sales for this event were minimal and we lost a lot money. To me this was
bad luck plain and simple. We had done everything right, but fate intervened
and turned a sure success into a disaster. However we were not discouraged,
we continued on with local bouts and then put together another major event
with guaranteed media coverage just as before. I felt safe this time,
because my black cloud had already struck with the previous event. Without
going into the details this event also was destroyed because of another
major news story that required all reporters to cover it. This day still
brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. The catastrophic news that
day also occurred prior to our media event just like before. This time
someone shot the Pope. I am sure you may all remember that day, because I
certainly do.
I hope these events will give you an understanding what a black cloud, or
bad luck, can do. I swear the stories I just told you are absolutely true.
I also have many gambling stories; too many to talk about. But, I would like
to recount the one that always seems to stick in my mind. My fiancé and I
were entering a casino in Vegas where we were staying and before going to
the room, I said to her “I see a machine over there that I’d like to try
before we go to the room.” She was checking something at the desk as I
approached the machine. I called her to hurry up and said I wanted her to
watch. “I may be lucky.” I said, “Ha Ha.”
I was just a few feet from the machine as she was walking towards me. I
looked to see how soon she would join me and then I turned back to the
machine, money in hand, but a young man got between the slot machine and me.
This of course was his good luck, he proceeded to slipped three coins in the
machine and hit a $10,000 jackpot on the first pull. You be the judge. Good
luck or bad luck strikes again.
Now that I’m on the subject, I must tell you about the time that a friend
and I were playing keno in a casino in Vegas for about six hours, going
through several hundreds of dollars and winning nothing. My friend and I
decided to go on to another casino and maybe we’d have better luck. I use
that term loosely. At the new casino, I realized I forgot to bring one of
our previous keno tickets so I could replay the same numbers on a 20 spot
ticket as we had been playing over and over at the other club. So I filled
in the keno ticket the best I could from memory. My friend was not at my
side at that time. When the game was over, we had a small win of about $200,
which I was very excited about. However my friend ran over to me and said,
“We won! We won!” because he had a copy of the old ticket that we were
playing at the previous casino. That showed the numbers that I should’ve
played. My friend thought we had just won $25,000. When I explained to him
what we actually won and why, he just about fainted as you might imagine.
Was this “Bad Luck” you be the judge.
I have many more keno stories that would just be a variation of more of the
same. One might think I would give up gambling, but I enjoy the action. That
reminds be of quote from a Woody Allen movie, (I can’t tell my brother he is
not a chicken, we need the eggs).
I did meet a lady and her husband aboard a cruise ship and she was very
lucky. She lives under a silver cloud or maybe even a gold one. In the
casino, everything was shut down because the cruise ship hadn’t left port
yet. As you may know, they have to get so far out to sea, before they can
turn on the gambling, or open the casino. At this meeting I was told by he
husband that his wife is extremely lucky. Everything she touches turns to
gold. He proceeded to tell us about many, many winning situations that she
had been involved in, so many that I couldn’t believe it.
That night in the casino, as I was trying my luck and having none, lo and
behold, I witnessed this woman win no less than five jackpots that evening.
Every time I saw this woman gambling she was winning. The cruise ship
stopped in Puerto Rico; less than a few blocks away there was a hotel
casino. I am sure many of you have entered those same doors while on a
cruise. Well we went inside to lose a few bucks and to our surprise, we see
this woman standing in front of slot machine with the bells ringing. She had
just won another major jackpot.
I know many of you won’t believe this story, but my fiancé was there and she
saw it as well. So good luck begets good fortune, and the opposite happens
to people with a black cloud. You be the judge.
Another point to ponder about good luck is the lottery. The chances of
winning huge cash prizes by picking all the right numbers is several
millions to one. If you ask a mathematician they would tell you that whether
you buy one ticket or 500 tickets, you have no chance to win against those
odds. It’s literally impossible. Yet the impossible happens on a regular
basis all the time, when you consider that some un-worthy person will win
maybe $100 million after purchasing only one ticket.
I want to know why they won and how come? I used the term unworthy person,
because I’m insanely jealous. I would like to know how the impossible
happens. As a matter of fact I have read about people who’ve won the lottery
prize money two or three times. I have come to the obvious conclusion that
these people have good luck plan and simple, which allows them to win the
lottery even though it is impossible to win when you consider the enormous
odds against them. Therefore, again, I conclude that good luck is just as
strong as bad luck, depending on whether you live under a black cloud, or
one with a silver lining. You be the judge.
Speaking of cruises, my fiancé and I went on a cruise to Mexico a few years
back. The ship held 2,400 passengers. Therefore there must have been 1,600
rooms or more. We were assigned a room like everyone else. The selection of
a room is kind of a random thing that really isn’t a concern. However, the
first night in our room, we heard water running, so we got up to see what
was happening. A water pipe in our room burst and the floor was drenched.
Water was up to our ankles. We dialed the maintenance department and they
were very apologetic and sent repairmen to our room to stop the leak, which
they ultimately did by the next morning. We of course got no sleep that
night. They used huge jet engines type dryers to dry the floors. You did not
have to be genius to conclude it would take days for the carpet to dry
completely. The smell from the drying carpet would drive a skunk back into
the woods, let alone the noise from the jet engines.
We of course asked for another room but there was none to be had. The ship
had been sold out, so we had to stay in this toilet for lack of better
words, for the entire cruise. No other rooms were affected, just ours alone.
I would like to point out the chances of us being assigned this particular
room out of the 1,600 that were available before the cruise was not very
likely. However my black cloud evidently made the arrangements or
reservations for me. You’ll have to be the judge for yourself in deciding
was this just happenstance, or my bad luck?
I could continue on for page after page of my bad luck stories. I think in
my case that would be redundant. I’d like to hear from you about your bad
luck experiences. I would like to hear and hopefully meet others with my
same beliefs. Please e-mail me your stories so I may reproduce them on this
site. You are invited to review the good, or bad luck true-life experiences
submitted by others like you. Also check out any posted solutions that may
have been posted by others or by us that could offer some medium of help for
this very serious problem. We have a section devoted to research and or
possible solutions. Also review our social page that may have events that
maybe of interest to you.
We also have a section that is allocated only for the use of well-known
people or celebrities to list some of their true-life experiences. We
believe no matter who you are bad luck can strike. Sharing their stories
with us I believe would be very helpful to relieve some of the anguish or
sorrow we feel during a bad luck episode. Just knowing bad luck has no
regard to ones status or career can have an up-lifting effect.
I also will be adding to my page observations, experiences or things of
interest for your review, or enjoyment depending on how you look at it.

I have had two major encounters with luck in my life, both good. The first occurred when I was in first grade. At my elementary school’s carnival, I won. It started with small things, but then I continued winning. Games of skill seemed a trifle. Cakewalks require little skill, but I won enough cakes to begin giving them away. The raffle started about halfway through the carnival, and my numbers kept getting called. I won quite a lot of money and prizes, a twenty-pound bag of popcorn for instance. Late in the day, when they started with adult games and prizes, a woman approached me and paid me to play bingo for her. She went home more than satisfied as I won her several prizes, the highlight being an expensive looking plant stand. At the end of the day, the only person chagrined was my mother. As she was the carnival’s organizer, she feared that my winning might make people think that the school’s completely honest games and contests might be less than aboveboard.
My second encounter with luck took place as an adult. My girlfriend and I bought some candy bars. When we got back to her place, we opened them, and both wrappers were winners of a little more than 2,000 dollars each. The chances of this happening are astronomical; my mathematician friend says in the billions to one.
Other than these incidents, no form of good or extraordinarily bad luck has, to my knowledge, profoundly affected my life. I do, however, have a tendency I’ve never understood that makes people seem to want to “take me down.”
